Cardiac Catheterization Labs
Cardiac Catheterization is a diagnostic study that provides your doctor with vital information about heart conditions that cannot be obtained by any other means. This procedure assist physicians in diagnosing heart conditions such as defective heart valves, coronary artery disease, the heart's pumping function, or congenital heart defects.
A special x-ray test that views the arteries and chambers of the heart. A local anesthesia is injected and a small tube is inserted into the artery in your arm or leg. The catheter passes toward your heart while the doctor and technicians monitor the movement. A dye is used to allow the physician to see how blood flows through the heart detecting any blockages. This procedure is normally performed on an outpatient basis.
Important information:
Follow your doctor's instructions regarding foods and medicine prior to the procedure.
Make physician aware if you are allergic to x-ray dyes.
Someone should be available to drive you home.
Provide a list of medication and dosages that you currently take.
